Kim Ki-hyun: "Moon only praises Kim Jong-un... Is this a genuine apology?"

"It doesn't make sense to say you couldn't watch it because it was dawn"

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] On the 29th, Kim Ki-hyun, a member of the People Power Party, criticized President Moon Jae-in's expression of regret over North Korea's shooting of our government official, saying, "It is full of content that praises Kim Jong-un's actions. Is this really a sincere apology?"

In an interview with KBS Radio's 'Kim Kyung-rae's Strongest Current Affairs' on the same day, Kim said, "I think it should have been announced earlier, but it was too late."

He pointed out, "Although there was an expression of regret toward the victim, there was no mention of demands for a fact-finding investigation or holding those responsible accountable, but rather content about resuming inter-Korean dialogue and restoring communication lines. The core issue here is the South Korean government's lack of response. The loss of South Korean citizens' lives and the responsibility for the delayed response."

Kim also strongly criticized President Moon Jae-in for reportedly not knowing about the National Security Council (NSC) meeting at the time of the incident.

He said, "Is it reasonable to say that he couldn't be briefed because it was early morning when the lives of South Korean citizens were at stake? It simply doesn't make sense logically."

He also raised suspicions, saying, "There is a possibility that after receiving the report, it was decided to pretend not to have been briefed because it would be difficult to release a speech on the declaration of the end of the war. We are asking for the truth about this part, but it has not been revealed."

Regarding the resolution on the declaration of the end of the war, Kim explained, "Isn't this the wrong time to do it now? I proposed discussing it when the time comes, considering North Korea's attitude and other factors. However, the Democratic Party of Korea insisted on forcibly putting it on the agenda just because 50 days had passed."

He added, "If declaring the end of the war would bring peace, why wouldn't they declare it? This administration made the September 19, 2018 inter-Korean military agreement. How can they have such an absurd idea that peace will come to South Korea and war will disappear just by declaring the end of the war when they haven't even kept the signed agreements?"
