[Asia Economy Reporter Junho Hwang] Choi Kyuha, President of the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute, was awarded the 'Order of Service Merit, Red Stripes' in recognition of his outstanding research activities and dedicated educational efforts in the field of electrical engineering, contributing to the development of the nation and the university, on the occasion of his retirement from Konkuk University as a professor on the 28th.
The Order of Service Merit, Red Stripes is awarded to public officials and private school employees who have been diligent in their duties and have clear achievements. Professors must have served for more than 38 years to receive this honor.
President Choi, originally from Busan, graduated from Busan High School and earned his doctorate in electrical engineering from Seoul National University. Since 1980, he has served as a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Konkuk University, guiding over 5,000 students for 40 years and dedicating himself to nurturing future talents in the field of electrical technology. He has also significantly contributed to the advancement of electrical engineering through more than 400 research papers and achievements, as well as over 30 awards related to education and research both inside and outside the university.
In addition, he has actively contributed to the academic development of power electronics and the improvement of energy safety systems by serving as the 10th president of the Power Electronics Society, chairman of the Energy Safety Expert Committee of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and a planning and evaluation committee member of the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology.
On the same day, President Choi was also appointed as an 'Honorary Professor' at Konkuk University. Honorary professors continue various activities for the development of their field and the university even after retirement.
President Choi said, "It feels like just yesterday when I gave my first lecture 40 years ago, and I am deeply moved that so much time has already passed. I will continue to work diligently with a sense of duty for the advancement of electrical engineering and the nurturing of future talents."
