It is known that in 2018, Kwangdong Pharmaceutical signed an agreement with Korea Mundipharma to jointly sell over 40 types of over-the-counter drugs and quasi-drugs including Betadine. The active ingredient of Betadine throat spray contains povidone-iodine.
According to a study by the University of Connecticut in the United States, povidone-iodine spray administered into the nose was found to rapidly inhibit the COVID-19 virus, SBS reported.
In the study, povidone solutions of varying concentrations were sprayed onto petri dishes cultured with the COVID-19 virus and compared with 70% alcohol spray. Even at a low concentration of 0.5%, exposure for 15 seconds showed a greater inhibitory effect than 70% alcohol.
