[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education announced on the 29th that it held the 'Gender Impact Assessment Committee Regular Meeting' on the 28th and selected 69 projects for this year's gender impact assessment.

At the meeting, committee members included Lee Hye-ja, member of the Jeonnam Provincial Council Education Committee; Kim Moon-soo, member of the Planning and Administration Committee; Moon Hyun-chul, professor of Police Administration at Chodang University; Kim Hye-jin, dedicated researcher at the Jeonnam Gender Impact Assessment Center; consultant Kim Sun-hee; and four ex officio members.

This year's gender impact assessment began by reviewing 155 projects collected over one month since June from the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education, 22 city and county education support offices, and affiliated institutions.

To enhance the expertise of the assessment, the Office of Education formed a public-private consultative body to actively gather opinions from external experts. Through this process, 59 representative projects were selected, and for the remaining projects not selected as targets, project managers were given the opportunity to reconsider their projects from a gender perspective.

Through this process, in addition to the 59 ongoing basic projects, 10 new projects including the superintendent's pledge projects were additionally selected. The 10 newly selected projects are distinctive initiatives that will help improve gender sensitivity in Jeonnam education and will be continuously managed for the next three years.

Kim Hye-jin, researcher at the Jeonnam Gender Impact Assessment Center, evaluated, "It is very progressive that the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education, after hiring a gender equality officer in May, conducted the first gender impact assessment that also reviewed projects of the education support offices. This has achieved results in strengthening the system and expertise of gender impact assessments."
