10% Fee Donation and Tax Deduction... U+ Altteul Phone Launches 'Hope Windmill Donation Plan'

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] A budget phone plan that automatically donates 10% of the fee and allows income tax deductions is being launched.

On the 29th, LG Uplus announced that it signed a business agreement with the Korean Red Cross to launch the "Hope Windmill Donation Plan" and jointly promote a blood donation campaign through IPTV. The signing ceremony was attended by Shin Heeyoung, Chairperson of the Korean Red Cross, and Ha Hyunhoe, Vice Chairman of LG Uplus, among others.

The Hope Windmill Donation Plan automatically donates 10% of the subscriber's basic fee to the Korean Red Cross. The donations are used for disaster relief and support for vulnerable groups, and the amount donated over one year can be issued as a receipt for income tax deduction under the donation category. Until now, most donation plans were made under corporate names, but LG Uplus’s plan donates directly under the subscriber’s name.

The U+ Budget Phone Hope Windmill Donation Plan, launching on October 5, offers 11GB of data, voice, and text messages included in the basic fee of 33,000 KRW (including VAT). After data is exhausted, unlimited use is available at a speed of 3Mbps.

Subscriptions are available on the websites of nine providers including Medialog, LG HelloVision, Keunsaram, S1, Merchand Korea, Inscombi, Unicoms, Code Mobile, and YL Land. LG Uplus will purchase 3,000 Korean Red Cross goods such as mini first aid kits and tumblers to give as gifts on a first-come, first-served basis to subscribers of this plan.

To actively participate in the blood donation campaign led by the Korean Red Cross, LG Uplus will broadcast blood donation encouragement campaign advertisements free of charge on its IPTV service U+tv. It also plans to carry out local community blood donation volunteer activities.

At the signing ceremony, the Korean Red Cross awarded Ha Hyunhoe, Vice Chairman of LG Uplus, the Highest Honorary Medal. This medal is the highest merit award given by the Korean Red Cross. Vice Chairman Ha was recognized for supporting over 10,000 smart pads earlier this year to assist online classes for children in vulnerable groups.

Shin Heeyoung, Chairperson of the Korean Red Cross, said, “We are pleased to be able to promote life-saving Red Cross humanitarian projects such as support for vulnerable groups and blood donation campaigns together with LG Uplus.”

Ha Hyunhoe, Vice Chairman of LG Uplus, said, “I hope this will serve as an opportunity to show that sharing is not a distant or difficult task, but something that can be easily practiced in everyday life simply by subscribing to a donation plan. I believe that the positive influence of one person will gather to create a better society, and LG Uplus will always do its best to build a better society together with our customers.”
