[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] LG Electronics is hosting an e-sports tournament to showcase the performance of its gaming monitor, the ‘LG UltraGear’.
LG Electronics announced on the 29th that it will hold the e-sports tournament ‘LG UltraGear Face-Off’ on the 3rd of next month (U.S. local time). The tournament will feature the recently released and popular first-person shooter (FPS) game ‘Valorant,’ and will be conducted as an online tournament. About 20 influential gamers from the popular live streaming platform ‘Twitch’ will participate.
Participants will compete using LG UltraGear gaming monitors, and LG Electronics will broadcast the tournament live worldwide on its global YouTube channel and the LG UltraGear Twitch channel.
LG Electronics will also offer prizes worth a total of $48,000 (approximately 57 million KRW), including 10 LG UltraGear gaming monitors and over 1,000 gift cards for the game distribution platform ‘Steam,’ through events for viewers watching the promotional video released a week before the tournament, the live broadcast, and highlight videos.
LG Electronics explained that the tournament is intended to directly engage consumers and promote the outstanding performance of LG UltraGear amid the rapidly growing global gaming monitor market. According to market research firm IDC, the global gaming monitor market (120Hz or higher) reached nearly 5 million units in the first half of this year, growing more than 1.5 times compared to the same period last year. LG Electronics’ gaming monitor shipments in the first half of the year have already surpassed last year’s total annual shipments.
The flagship product, the LG UltraGear gaming monitor (27GN950), features ▲4K resolution ▲1ms (one-thousandth of a second) response time ▲144Hz refresh rate displaying 144 frames per second. Additionally, this product is equipped with graphic compatibility features that minimize screen tearing, such as ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ and ‘AMD FreeSync Premium Pro.’
Domestic customers can directly experience the key features of the LG UltraGear gaming monitor at experience zones set up in major LG Best Shop stores.
Jang Ik-hwan, Executive Vice President and Head of LG Electronics’ IT Business Division, said, “We will lead the gaming monitor market by conducting various marketing activities to inform more customers about the differentiated performance of LG UltraGear.”
