Songpa-gu Receives Minister of Employment and Labor Award at National Local Government Job Competition

Operation of Integrated Job Support Center, Differentiated Policies such as Munjeong Biz Valley Job Hub... Minister of Employment and Labor Institutional Commendation, Securing 90 Million Won Financial Incentives

Songpa-gu Receives Minister of Employment and Labor Award at National Local Government Job Competition

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) received the Minister’s Award at the ‘2020 National Local Government Job Awards’ hosted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor.

Accordingly, the district secured a financial incentive of 90 million KRW along with the Minister of Employment and Labor’s institutional commendation.

The National Job Awards have been given since 2012 to widely publicize local governments’ efforts and achievements in job creation through the regional job target disclosure system and to raise social interest.

This award can be seen as the result of Songpa-gu’s 7th elected administration, which has focused all efforts on job creation as the top priority.

The district expanded job infrastructure by target groups centered on the Integrated Job Support Center, enhancing vocational skill development for vulnerable employment groups and expanding the provision of quality employment services.

In January last year, the district expanded and reorganized the dedicated job department, established ordinances for youth policy, promotion of employment for the disabled, and support for small business owners, thereby strengthening the institutional foundation for job creation.

To establish a foundation for youth independence, various youth-tailored policy projects are actively being promoted, including startup incubation using the ICT Youth Startup Support Center, the Startup Challenge Project supporting excellent item business expenses, and the SME Youth Employment Internship Program.

In particular, Songpa-gu received high evaluations for differentiated policies linked to local industries, such as building a job platform connecting companies and job seekers in Munjeong Biz Valley, which houses about 3,000 new growth engine industry companies, providing management consulting support, holding job fairs, nurturing ICT-based talent, and opening a specialized online recruitment hall on Job Korea.

Additionally, the district is leading efforts to improve job quality and revitalize the social economy through initiatives such as the opening of the Southeast Labor Comprehensive Support Center, operation of the living wage system, support for social economy enterprises’ business development costs, and opening of joint sales outlets.

Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “I am very pleased and honored that our efforts and achievements in job creation, the top priority of the 7th elected administration, have been recognized. Although everyone is facing difficulties due to COVID-19, we will do our best to minimize the employment blind spots of vulnerable groups and create a vibrant economic city Songpa by discovering sustainable quality jobs.”
