[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] On the 28th, Yoon Joon-byung, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized the lawyer representing the victim in the late Park Won-soon, former Seoul mayor’s sexual harassment case, who mentioned "respect for life" in relation to the government official killed by North Korean forces, saying, "This is a double standard based on partisan logic. It is time for the victim to respond directly for the truth to be revealed."
On the same day, Yoon wrote on his Facebook, "The legal representative of the victim in the Mayor Park case also emphasized respect for life regarding the government official shooting incident," expressing this view.
Earlier, Kim Jae-ryeon, the lawyer for the sexual harassment victim of Mayor Park, posted on her Facebook on the 27th, saying, "Is it acceptable for someone who divorced four months ago to be shot and killed? Is it acceptable for someone whose salary was garnished to be shot and killed?" She added, "Articles about the deceased’s private life are very uncomfortable and troubling."
Kim further stated, "Let us not recklessly dismantle the private life of the deceased."
Regarding this, Yoon quoted some phrases written by Lawyer Kim and said, "I agree," but added, "However, I cannot agree with the double standard based on partisan logic. Regarding the press conference content by Lawyer K related to the former Mayor Park Won-soon case, including the mayor’s secretariat, many of you are raising questions."
Yoon emphasized, "I believe it is now time for the victim to respond directly for the truth to be clarified."
Regarding the killing incident, Yoon stated, "No matter how divided the situation is, it is a regrettable and unfortunate event that should never happen," and "I strongly condemn North Korea’s inhumane atrocities."
He also argued, "The declaration of the end of the war currently being discussed in the National Assembly can be proceeded with after this incident is resolved; it is not too late."
Meanwhile, Yoon served as the first deputy mayor of Seoul from 2018 to 2019 alongside the late Mayor Park.
