[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju University (President Kim Hyukjong) announced on the 28th that the 2021 academic year early admission application deadline resulted in 7,511 applicants for 1,724 recruitment spots, recording an average competition rate of 4.36 to 1.


Looking at the competition rates by screening type, the general student screening, which has the largest number of recruits, recorded a competition rate of 4.37 to 1 with 4,372 applicants for 1,001 spots, and the regional student screening showed a competition rate of 4.44 to 1 with 2,810 applicants for 633 spots.


By department, the Department of Health Administration (regional students) had the highest competition rate at 7.88 to 1, followed by the Department of Nursing (general students) at 7.45 to 1, the Department of Early Childhood Education (regional students) at 7.1 to 1, and the Department of Fire Administration (general students) at 7.09 to 1.


The Department of Beauty and Cosmetology (general students) and the Department of Hotel and Food Service Cooking (regional students) also showed high competition rates of 6.92 to 1 and 6.81 to 1, respectively.


Gwangju University will conduct the general student screening interviews online in a non-face-to-face format on the 30th of next month (the Department of Nursing on the 29th and 30th), and the successful candidates for departments not applying the minimum CSAT score will be announced on November 13, while those applying the minimum CSAT score will be announced on December 24.


Meanwhile, Gwangju University plans to provide academic activity support funds to all early admission registrants for the 2021 academic year.


Accordingly, all registrants of the 2021 early admission will receive 200,000 KRW as academic activity support funds, and freshmen who were initially accepted through the admission screening will receive a total of 600,000 KRW, including a 400,000 KRW academic encouragement scholarship to attract outstanding talents.


Additionally, basic livelihood security recipients and lower-income students who applied and were accepted through multiple screenings within and outside the quota can receive an additional 400,000 KRW academic encouragement scholarship.


Gwangju University plans to pay all academic encouragement scholarships in cash so that freshmen can use them for academic activities such as purchasing textbooks and smart devices necessary for attending online classes conducted due to COVID-19.
