[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] A fire station chief was caught in an investigation for abusing power by verbally abusing an employee who refused to eat ramen served by him during a department dinner.
On the 28th, according to the Chungbuk Fire Headquarters, the National Fire Agency recently requested disciplinary action against Fire Station Chief A of the Chungbuk Fire Headquarters for violating the duty to maintain dignity and sincerity.
The National Fire Agency reportedly received a complaint from employee B of the fire station, who claimed to have been abused by Chief A, and has been conducting an investigation.
The fire station is understood to have held a welcome party for new employees on the afternoon of July 13 at a recreational facility in Chungbuk, while social distancing measures were actively enforced due to the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Chief A and 12 subordinate employees attended the event.
Chief A served ramen cooked on-site using his own chopsticks to subordinate employee B. Employee B refused to eat it citing hygiene concerns, and when B expressed refusal, an angry Chief A reportedly threw his chopsticks at B while verbally abusing him.
Following this, employee B reportedly filed a complaint with the headquarters, citing mental distress.
The Chungbuk Fire Headquarters plans to hold a disciplinary committee meeting for Chief A next month.
