[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk announced on the 28th that it has completed the expansion construction of the Honam Line Sintaein Underpass and fully opened it for safe road use.
The newly expanded Sintaein Underpass was originally installed in 1985 and is an aging underpass.
The road was narrow and steep, causing continuous collective complaints from nearby residents.
The city continuously requested the Korea National Railway Corporation to expand the underpass to resolve the complaints, but due to budget issues, it was not resolved until the National Rights Commission mediated, leading to the start of construction in October 2017 and completion after about three years.
In particular, despite the difficult site conditions involving the simultaneous demolition of the old Sintaein Overpass, the construction was perfectly managed and completed without a single safety accident.
The total project cost was 17.7 billion KRW, including 13.2 billion KRW from the city budget and 4.5 billion KRW from the Korea National Railway Corporation.
The main facilities include a newly constructed 52m underpass and 380m connecting road, totaling 432m in length, expanded and opened as a two-lane road.
Additionally, with the demolition of the Sintaein Overpass, sidewalks were installed to improve pedestrian environments, greatly enhancing the traffic environment.
Mayor Yoo Jinseop said, “We thank the local residents for enduring the inconvenience during the construction period and actively cooperating,” and added, “We plan to continuously improve so that residents do not experience any inconvenience in traffic passage in the future.”
