Three Gwangju Seo-gu Council Members Disciplined for 'Party Policy Violation' Also Expelled by Central Party

Three Gwangju Seo-gu Council Members Disciplined for 'Party Policy Violation' Also Expelled by Central Party

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Three Gwangju Seo-gu council members who were expelled from the Democratic Party of Korea's Gwangju Metropolitan City Party for violating party lines in the second half chairman election and filed for a retrial have ultimately been forced to leave the Democratic Party.

According to the Democratic Party's Gwangju City Party on the 28th, on the 25th, the central party sent an official letter to the Gwangju City Party rejecting the retrial requested by Seo-gu council members Kim Young-seon, Park Young-sook, and Kang In-taek, and decided to expel them.

The Democratic Party Central Party Ethics Tribunal is known to have made this decision after two retrials.

On July 2nd, during the second half Seo-gu Council chairman election, Democratic Party members decided to nominate Councilor Oh Gwang-kyo as the chairman candidate and signed a pledge.

However, in the plenary session of the temporary meeting, through a secret ballot, Councilor Kim Tae-young was elected chairman instead of Councilor Oh Gwang-kyo.

At that time, the Seo-gu Council consisted of 13 members: 9 from the Democratic Party, 1 from the Minsheng Party, 2 from the Progressive Party, and 2 independents. Councilor Kim Tae-young received 8 votes.

Since all 4 non-Democratic Party members supported Councilor Kim, the Democratic Party Gwangju City Party viewed the 3 Democratic Party members who did not support him as violating the party line, initiated disciplinary procedures, and expelled them.

Chairman Kim Tae-young accepted the expulsion decision by the Democratic Party Gwangju City Party, but the three council members opposed it and filed for a retrial with the central party.

However, the Central Party Ethics Tribunal dismissed their retrial request, leaving them without relief.
