[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Joo Ho-young, floor leader of the People Power Party, demanded on the 28th that “(President Moon Jae-in) please clarify your whereabouts during the 48 hours” in relation to the shooting incident of the missing public official from Yeonpyeong Island by North Korea.

At an emergency party meeting held in front of the National Assembly main building titled “Condemning North Korea’s Atrocities of Massacre Against Our Citizens,” Floor Leader Joo said, “President Moon said presidential time is a public good,” and “Therefore, he has persistently demanded the disclosure of former President Park Geun-hye’s 7 hours,” emphasizing this point.

Floor Leader Joo stated, “How much effort did the Ministry of National Defense make to save Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae’s son?” and “Did they even make one-tenth of that effort to save the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries public official? It makes no sense.” He added, “I ask the citizens to share in this anger and unite to hear President Moon’s position,” and stressed, “Whether through an emergency question session or a state audit in the National Assembly, this incident must be thoroughly investigated.”

Jeong Jin-seok, a People Power Party lawmaker, criticized, “Whether it was voluntary defection to the North, drifting, or disappearance is not the important issue,” and said, “There was a time window to rescue our citizen when they were violated by the North Korean military. During the golden 8 hours, the South Korean government was absent. Neither the military nor the president was present. The commander-in-chief who does not make rescue efforts when our citizen is in danger is unfit for the position.”

Lawmaker Jeong sharply criticized, “When Yoo Si-min, chairman of the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation, Moon Chung-in, presidential special advisor on unification, diplomacy, and security, and Jeong Se-hyun, senior vice chairman of the Democratic Peaceful Unification Advisory Council, laughed while calling him an enlightened monarch, I almost vomited at that moment.”

People Power Party lawmaker Tae Young-ho said, “The inter-Korean direct communication line, which worked so well when delivering the president’s personal letter praising North Korean State Affairs Commission Chairman Kim Jong-un, why was it dead silent when it came to protecting the lives of our citizens?” and added, “This tragic situation was already fully predictable since the Moon Jae-in administration took office, which makes it even more shocking and absurd.”

Lawmaker Tae pointed out, “The ruling power and government of South Korea are making a big fuss as if they have received a great favor over a single apology from the North Korean regime,” and said, “The regime’s personal guard unit has started praising Chairman Kim as an enlightened monarch. The reality of so-called progressive intellectuals in this country is that they worship a tyrant who killed his uncle, poisoned his brother, imprisoned hundreds of thousands of North Korean residents in political prison camps, shot our citizens to death, and burned their bodies.”

People Power Party lawmaker Lee Young said, “President Moon should bring our citizens back to this land with efforts and methods that the people can accept,” and “All members of the People Power Party promise to continue efforts until the circumstances of how this situation occurred are fully clarified.”
