Suncheon National University Natural Products Medicine and Industry Research Institute Inauguration Ceremony Held


[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon National University (President Ko Young-jin) announced on the 28th the launch of the 'Natural Products Medicine and Industry Research Institute (Director Park Ki-young)'.


Suncheon National University expects that the newly launched institute will become a research hub for the natural products industry in the Jeonnam region in the future.


Suncheon City and Suncheon National University have been operating the Suncheon Natural Products Medicine Material Development Research Center with an investment of 10 billion KRW annually, totaling 100 billion KRW from Suncheon City over the past 10 years as a cooperative project to foster the natural products industry.


As a result of producing various research and development achievements, sales growth has been observed through overseas exports and domestic sales of products, and there are also foreign investment intentions.


The Natural Products Medicine and Industry Research Institute announced that it will focus on foundational research necessary for industrializing biological resources, which are blue resources in Suncheon and the Jeonnam region, in the blue bio sector as part of Jeollanam-do's Blue Economy project.


In particular, it set a goal to play a key role in securing new growth engines for the region by discovering and industrializing medicinal materials for immune enhancement through processes such as fermentation and extraction.


At the event, many university officials participated, including President Ko Young-jin, Kim Jong-wook, Chairman of the Suncheon Chamber of Commerce, Jang Dong-jo, Director of the Natural Products Medicine Material Development Research Center, Bang Seong-ryong, Advisor of Paru Co., Ltd., as well as Graduate School Dean Park Ki-young, College of Pharmacy Dean Son Young-jin, and Industry-Academia Cooperation Foundation Director Heo Jae-seon.
