[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Hyundai Motor Company has expanded the reach of eco-friendly vehicles, specifically hydrogen electric vehicles, to the Middle East, the main oil-producing region.
On the 27th, Hyundai Motor announced on the 28th that it shipped a total of four vehicles from Ulsan Port to Saudi Arabia, including two hydrogen electric vehicles ‘Nexo’ and two hydrogen electric buses ‘Elec City FCEV’.
The vehicles shipped that day will be delivered to Saudi Aramco, a global integrated energy and chemical company in Saudi Arabia. Hyundai Motor signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Saudi Aramco in June last year to jointly work on expanding the supply of hydrogen electric vehicles in Saudi Arabia. The Nexo and Elec City FCEV supplied this time will be used for pilot operations and demonstration projects locally in the future.
This shipment is significant as it marks the first export of eco-friendly vehicles powered by hydrogen, not oil, to the Middle East region. Additionally, the hydrogen electric bus Elec City FCEV achieved the milestone of being exported overseas for the first time through this supply to Saudi Arabia.

The hydrogen electric bus Elec City FCEV being exported this time measures 10,995mm in length, 2,490mm in width, and 3,420mm in height. It is equipped with a high-performance and durable fuel cell system and can travel approximately 430km on a single charge.
Through this export, Hyundai Motor plans to demonstrate its differentiated hydrogen electric vehicle technology and actively target the eco-friendly vehicle market in the Middle East in the future.
Jung Bang-seon, Head of Hyundai Motor’s Asia-Middle East Regional Headquarters, said, “It is meaningful to export hydrogen electric vehicles to Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest oil-producing country,” adding, “We will make multifaceted efforts to expand the supply of hydrogen electric vehicles in the Middle East region going forward.”
