Dongjak-gu Promotes Seismic Reinforcement of Public Buildings

Starting October, seismic performance evaluations will be conducted at five locations including Dong Community Centers, libraries, and welfare centers... Based on the evaluations, seismic reinforcement construction will be promoted from October through next year at sites such as Yaksu Library.

Seismic Performance Evaluation of Sangdo 2-dong Community Center

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) will promote seismic reinforcement projects targeting public buildings in the area from October to protect the lives and safety of residents.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration's announcement earlier this month, about 46 earthquakes of magnitude 2.0 or higher occurred sporadically nationwide in the first half of this year.

Since 2017, the district has promoted the "Public Building Seismic Reinforcement Project" for three years, completing a total of 17 projects including 12 seismic performance evaluations (hereinafter referred to as performance evaluations), 3 reinforcement designs, and 2 reinforcement constructions.

This year, about 260 million KRW from the district disaster management fund will be invested to carry out 5 performance evaluations and 2 reinforcement constructions.

First, a service contract was signed this month to present detailed safety inspections, seismic performance evaluations, and repair and reinforcement plans, and performance evaluations will be conducted for 90 days starting next month.

The evaluation targets are five locations: Noryangjin 2-dong Community Center, Sadang 4-dong Community Center, Daebang-dong Community Center, Dongjak Children's Library, and Sadang Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, all reinforced concrete buildings at least 20 years old.

A technical team of about 10 experts from various fields such as architectural construction engineers and architectural technicians will be organized to focus on evaluating ▲year of completion, total floor area, general status of facility scale ▲defects in building exterior, structural and non-structural components ▲equipment inspection and material testing.

Based on the results of this performance evaluation, the district plans to decide on the targets for seismic reinforcement construction, proceed with detailed design for seismic reinforcement, select seismic reinforcement methods, and carry out construction in 2021.

Additionally, seismic reinforcement construction will begin in October for two locations where performance evaluations have already been conducted: Aegsu Library and Sangdo 2-dong Community Center.

Meanwhile, the district is promoting the "Earthquake Safety Facility Certification Support Project" until December, which supports up to 27 million KRW for seismic performance evaluations and up to 3 million KRW for certification fees to encourage voluntary seismic reinforcement participation and secure earthquake safety for private buildings.
