[Asia Economy Reporter Joo Sang-don] Moon Sung-hyuk, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, held a "Situation Inspection Meeting on the Search Related to the Missing Fisheries Guidance Vessel Staff" at 5 p.m. on the 27th in the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' comprehensive situation room, together with the Korea Coast Guard, the National Oceanographic Research Institute, and the West Sea Fisheries Management Unit.
On the 21st, an employee of the Fisheries Management Unit under the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries went missing while on board a fisheries guidance vessel to maintain order in the Yeonpyeong waters. Since then, a joint search involving the military, police, government, and civilians has been ongoing. As of today, six aircraft (four Navy and two Coast Guard) and 37 vessels (16 Navy, 11 Coast Guard, and 10 fisheries guidance vessels) have been deployed.
At today's meeting, Minister Moon reviewed the search status so far and future plans, and discussed measures to alleviate difficulties faced by the families of the missing, as well as psychological support for the families and the crew of Mugunghwa 10.
Minister Moon urged, "Please do your utmost in the search and support for the missing through information sharing and close cooperation among agencies, and also ensure thorough safety measures to prevent accidents among the staff participating in the search."
