Choi Dae-jip, President of the Korean Medical Association, Holds Position... Impeachment Motion Rejected

Choi Dae-jip, President of the Korean Medical Association, Holds Position... Impeachment Motion Rejected Choi Dae-jip, President of the Korean Medical Association, is speaking at the temporary general meeting of the Korean Medical Association delegates held on the 27th at the Swiss Grand Hotel in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul.

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] The impeachment motion against Choi Dae-jip, president of the Korean Medical Association, was rejected. Earlier, a vote was held on a no-confidence motion, citing loss of trust due to unilaterally drafting an agreement with the government and ruling party as a representative of medical organizations, but the impeachment motion did not pass.

On the 27th, the Korean Medical Association's delegates held an extraordinary general meeting at a hotel in Seoul and voted on the no-confidence motion against President Choi and the current executive board, as well as on the agenda to form an emergency countermeasure committee. Among the 203 delegates who participated in the no-confidence vote that day, 114 voted in favor, 85 opposed, and 4 abstained. According to the association's bylaws, a no-confidence motion requires at least two-thirds of all delegates to be present and at least two-thirds of those present to vote in favor to be approved.

Choi, who became the 40th president of the Korean Medical Association in 2018, has taken a confrontational stance against the government by criticizing its health coverage enhancement policies, which have caused dissatisfaction within the medical community. Although he made strong claims, voices opposing President Choi frequently emerged within the association, citing insufficient protest strategies or failure to achieve tangible results. At the end of last year, an impeachment motion was also proposed and voted on but was rejected as it did not meet the approval requirements at that time.
