Prime Minister Jeong: "Participants in Illegal Gaecheonjeol Gatherings Will Be Immediately Arrested... Zero Tolerance Policy" Prime Minister Jeong Sye-kyun

[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun stated on the 27th regarding some groups' announcement to proceed with gatherings on Gaecheonjeol, "Participants in illegal assemblies will be immediately arrested on-site and dealt with under a zero-tolerance policy, including driver's license suspension."

At the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH) meeting held at the Government Seoul Office on the same day to respond to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), Prime Minister Chung said, "The government will strictly respond to all illegal assemblies occurring on Gaecheonjeol for the safety of the community."

He emphasized, "In particular, triple blockade measures will be implemented at the boundaries of Seoul, Han River bridges, and assembly locations," and urged, "Related groups are requested to withdraw their assembly plans even now."

Regarding the Chuseok holiday, Prime Minister Chung urged restraint in movement, saying, "This time, the greatest filial piety and courtesy is to care for the safety and health of parents and relatives without meeting them face-to-face."

He continued, "This Chuseok should be a holiday that protects the safety of the people not only from COVID-19 but also from various incidents and accidents," and requested, "Departments related to public safety and security, such as the National Police Agency and the Fire Agency, should maintain thorough readiness and ensure full emergency duty so that the public can spend the Chuseok holiday quietly and peacefully."
