Gwangju City to Begin Phase 1 Electrical Work for Urban Railway Line 2 in November

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 27th that it is currently posting bids on the Public Procurement Service website for three electrical works at the Urban Railway Line 2 Vehicle Depot (construction cost 11.4 billion KRW; 60% national funds, 40% city funds), and plans to select a contractor next month and start construction in November.

This project was ordered as a follow-up process following the normal progress of civil engineering, architecture, and track works at the Yuchon-dong vehicle depot, which began construction in June.

Gwangju City divided the project into three fields?power transmission and transformation, general electrical work, and overhead catenary system?to encourage active participation from local electrical contractors.

For power transmission and general electrical work, companies can bid independently even without prior construction experience. For the overhead catenary system, companies with more than 1 km of construction experience can bid independently, but those without experience can participate jointly under the mandatory 49% local company joint contract clause.

Additionally, after finalizing the total project cost for the electrical sector in November, the city plans to issue bids in the first half of next year for electrical works and government-supplied materials for the 17 km main line of Phase 1 of the Gwangju Urban Railway Line 2 and 20 stations and ventilation rooms, with a project scale of approximately 110 billion KRW.

Park Nam-ju, head of the Urban Railway Construction Headquarters of the city, said, “We will actively strive to secure 60% national funding support for the construction of Gwangju Urban Railway Line 2, and will consider various measures to enable many local specialized electrical companies to participate in order to revitalize the local economy and create jobs.”
