[Asia Economy Reporter Yoonju Hwang] Hanwha Group won a total of six awards at the SABRE Asia Pacific Awards, the world's largest PR awards, including the Diamond Sabre Awards Corporate of the Year for its 'Clean Up Mekong' and 'Hanwha Global Newsroom' campaigns.
The SABRE Awards, established in 1970 by the global marketing media Holmes Report, is the world's largest PR award. Each year, about 6,000 entries are submitted focusing on branding and reputation. Winners are selected through judging by over 60 experts from global companies, advertising agencies, and PR firms in categories such as brand, reputation, marketing communications, and digital/social media.
The ‘Clean Up Mekong: Hanwha Solar Boat’ campaign won the Diamond Sabre Awards Corporate of the Year and Brand Building categories, as well as Gold Awards in the CSR and Social Issue Communications categories at this year's awards.
The ‘Clean Up Mekong’ campaign is an environmental protection initiative by Hanwha Group aimed at helping solve environmental issues in the Vietnam region. In June 2019, Hanwha Group produced and donated two solar-powered watercrafts that operate solely on solar panels without petroleum fuel to Vinh Long City, Vietnam. The campaign has previously won six awards including the Gold Award at the New York Festivals, four Merit Awards at The One Show International Advertising Awards, five awards in The Work 2020 by Campaign Brief, and two awards at the Busan International Advertising Festival.
The Hanwha Solar Boat is equipped with Hanwha Q CELLS’ high-performance solar modules to enhance energy efficiency and features a conveyor device to collect floating debris. The initiative was designed to use eco-friendly solar energy instead of petroleum fuel, which emits carbon, for the boats that clean up waste. The boat measures 6.45 meters in length, 2.3 meters in width, and 2.6 meters in height, and operates 6 to 7 hours daily on the Mekong River collecting floating waste. Two boats collect approximately 400 to 500 kilograms of debris each day.
