[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The creation of a trail connecting a total of 860km around the outskirts of Gyeonggi Province is set to be actively promoted.
Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization announced on the 27th that they have completed the development of the Brand Identity (BI) for the Gyeonggi Trail, which consists of 60 courses totaling 860km connecting the outskirts of the province, and will begin full-scale trail construction.
The Gyeonggi Trail is a project that connects the "walking paths" currently operated in 15 cities and counties along the provincial border into one continuous route.
This project aims to transform the "walking paths," which were created separately by each city and county and were disconnected, into a path where residents can walk together while sharing ecological, cultural, and historical aspects between neighboring regions. This is a pledge made by Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung.
Accordingly, the province prioritized pedestrian safety when selecting the entire route last year and developed the Gyeonggi Trail brand, meaning "walking together as one," over six months starting in March this year.
The main symbol connects the outer trail courses of the province with lines to shape the terrain of Gyeonggi Province, enhancing the pride of Gyeonggi residents. Four zones (Pyeonghwa Nuri-gil, Forest Trail, Water Trail, and Coastal Trail) are each assigned distinct colors to reflect regional characteristics.
The design draft will be distributed to the relevant cities and counties of the pilot sections after applying for and registering the design (product) and will be incorporated into the guidance system.
The province and the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization plan to complete a 344km pilot section spanning six cities and counties including Gimpo by the end of this year and continue the remaining trail connection project until 2021.
Simultaneously, they will promote the development of a dedicated app and website to provide easy route guidance and various tourism information such as tourist attractions, accommodations, and restaurants.
Choi Yong-hoon, head of the province’s Tourism Division, emphasized, "In line with the changed tourism trends minimizing contact among tourists after COVID-19, we will foster the Gyeonggi Trail as a representative non-face-to-face tourism product." He added, "We will widely promote walking tourism in Gyeonggi Province using the newly developed BI of the Gyeonggi Trail and develop it into a nationally representative tourism brand."
