Since the 11th, 23 cases in Gyeongju and 30 in Pohang 'Transmission Among Residents'

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] In the two local governments of Pohang and Gyeongju in Gyeongbuk Province, community transmission of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) has continued for half a month since the 11th.
According to Gyeongbuk Province on the 27th, six new confirmed cases were reported the day before, including five people in their 60s and 70s in Pohang and one person in their 50s in Gyeongju. As a result, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the Gyeongbuk area as of midnight that day was counted at 1,497, an increase of six from the previous day.
In Pohang, four people in their 60s and 70s who had met the confirmed patient (Pohang case No. 79, etc.) identified as infected during the admission procedure at Pohang St. Mary's Hospital were consecutively tested positive.
Another person in their 70s was confirmed positive after being classified as having had contact with Pohang case No. 84 and undergoing testing. Since case No. 84 was also classified as a contact of case No. 79 and confirmed positive, case No. 79 has emerged as a super spreader. This has increased the number of confirmed cases in the Pohang area to 90.
In Gyeongju, epidemiological investigation confirmed that a woman in her 50s, case No. 90 living in Hwang-o-dong, had contact with confirmed cases No. 82, 88, and 89. This woman, who had been experiencing flu-like symptoms since the 12th, was classified as a contact of confirmed cases, underwent testing, and was notified of a positive result on the 26th.
Meanwhile, in Gyeongbuk, community infection cases have continued without interruption since the 11th, when infections related to the Chilgok wild ginseng (Jangnoe-sam) business briefing were confirmed in both Gyeongju and Pohang. Over the half-month period until the 26th, 53 residents in the two local governments alone (23 in Gyeongju, 30 in Pohang) were confirmed positive.
In this regard, Gyeongju City and Pohang City agreed on the 25th to jointly enforce Level 2 social distancing measures in preparation for the Chuseok holiday. Until then, Gyeongju had raised social distancing to Level 2, while Pohang maintained Level 1.5.
