[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] Institutions participating in the ‘AI One Team’ led by KT discussed ways to overcome the COVID-19 crisis and innovate using AI.
On the 27th, KT announced that on the afternoon of the 25th, it held the ‘AI One Team Summit 2020’ together with nine institutions participating in the AI One Team, including Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, LG Electronics, LG Uplus, Korea Investment & Securities, Dongwon Group, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Hanyang University, and Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI).
In the presentations of achievements by participating institutions, KT emphasized that its AI speaker ‘Giga Genie’ has secured over 2.5 million subscribers in just over three years since its launch, and that AI’s scope is expanding beyond homes to apartments, hotels, and automobiles. It also explained that AI is being increasingly applied in various fields such as customer centers, robots, food and beverage, manufacturing, and logistics, and that it has become an effective measure for the introduction of untact (non-face-to-face) services due to COVID-19. Hyundai Heavy Industries Group explained that it is currently developing and advancing intelligent service robots, and concrete results are expected as early as the end of this year. In addition, it plans to expand its business areas to various fields starting with AI hotel robots.
LG Electronics and LG Uplus are conducting joint research to prevent the spread of COVID-19, which has become a global issue. They are refining infection spread and risk blocking modeling by jointly utilizing telecommunications data from LG Uplus and KT. Furthermore, by combining data from LG Electronics products and AI technology, they are working to create models to prevent infection spread and risks from a multidimensional and new perspective. They also announced that they are promoting joint projects such as mutual linkage between LG Electronics’ ‘LG ThinQ’ and KT’s AI platform Giga Genie, as well as integration between LG Electronics products and KT’s home IoT services. Korea Investment & Securities is reviewing applying KT’s AI education system AiDU and various talent development programs to cultivate AI experts specialized in the financial industry.
KT CEO Koo Hyun-mo said, “As digital transformation (DX) accelerates due to COVID-19, represented by untact, AI will be the core solution and driving force of DX. We will strengthen collaboration within the AI One Team to make Korea the number one AI country and contribute to overcoming the economic crisis caused by COVID-19 based on AI and DX.”
