[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Eun-young] Tae Young-ho, a 58-year-old member of the People Power Party, mentioned the American human rights movement 'Black Lives Matter' in relation to the shooting incident involving a North Korean Ministry of Maritime Affairs official. He argued that the world should loudly proclaim 'Korean lives matter' as well.
At the first meeting of the 'Fact-Finding Task Force on North Korea's Atrocities of Shooting and Burning Our Citizens' held at the National Assembly on the 26th, Representative Tae said, "Our citizen was shot in front of a North Korean gun barrel, so why isn't there a 'Korean Lives Matter' movement?"
He stated, "In the United States, when a Black person is harmed by the police during official duties, the 'Black Lives Matter' movement arises throughout the country," and added, "Citizens with democratic awareness who even impeached the president, why are they so weak and timid in front of North Korea when our people die in front of North Korean gun barrels?"
Regarding the official who was shot by the North Korean military, he said, "Even at the moment when his life was hanging by a thread in front of the North Korean gun barrel, he shouted the slogan 'Republic of Korea'," and questioned, "How can such a person be presumed to have defected to the North?"
Earlier, at the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee plenary session held at the National Assembly on the 25th, Representative Tae argued, "If I were killed in the middle of Seoul and Chairman Kim Jong-un sent a letter of apology, would that be considered a prompt response?" This led to a verbal dispute with Ahn Min-seok, a 54-year-old member of the Democratic Party of Korea.
