[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Min-young] On the 25th (local time), a suspect who carried out a stabbing rampage near the former office of the weekly magazine Charlie Hebdo in central Paris, France, was arrested.
AFP news agency and BFM TV reported that around 12:15 PM in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, two unidentified suspects wielded knives, and two people stabbed by these weapons were taken to the hospital.
Initially, the police announced that there were four victims but corrected the number to two about an hour later. The victims sustained serious injuries but are reported to be out of life-threatening danger.
The police stated that the first suspect was arrested around 1 PM near Place de la Bastille. Local media reported that the second suspect was also caught around 1:55 PM at Richard-Lenoir station.
The French judicial authorities have classified this incident as terrorism, and the anti-terrorism prosecutor's office immediately launched an investigation.
Charlie Hebdo had previously become a target of a gun attack in January 2015 after using cartoons of Muhammad, the founder of Islam, as subject matter.
The main perpetrators, brothers Sa?d and Ch?rif Kouachi, entered the Charlie Hebdo editorial office and opened fire, killing 12 people.
Afterwards, Charlie Hebdo relocated its office to strengthen security, and a memorial space was established near the old office.
The main perpetrator was killed during the arrest process, and the trial of 14 accomplices has been held in Paris since this month.
On the first day of the trial, Charlie Hebdo once again featured the 12-panel cartoon that triggered the terrorist attack on its cover, titled "Everything, Just Because of That."
