Yeongdeungpo-gu Yeongjung-ro Pedestrian Environment Improvement 1st Anniversary Big Cleanup

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chae Hyun-il) conducted a thorough cleaning and COVID-19 prevention disinfection activities on September 25th to mark the 1st anniversary of the Yeongjung-ro Pedestrian Environment Improvement Project, covering the pedestrian paths, roadways, and various facilities in the Yeongjung-ro area.

September 25th marks the 1st anniversary of the completion ceremony of the ‘Yeongjung-ro Pedestrian Environment Improvement Project,’ a core pledge of Yeongdeungpo-gu Mayor Chae Hyun-il and the first petition of the 7th local government Yeongdeungpo Newspaper Office.

On this day, Mayor Chae Hyun-il, along with street vendors from Yeongjung-ro, district office staff, and about 30 people including disinfection specialists, took cleaning tools and headed out to Yeongjung-ro street from 7:30 a.m.

They thoroughly swept and cleaned the sidewalks and roadways along Yeongjung-ro, from Yeongdeungpo Station intersection to Yeongdeungpo Market intersection, and carefully inspected and cleaned street vendors, bus stops, green belts, and other facilities to remove accumulated grime from every corner.

Two street water trucks and two steam cleaning vehicles were mobilized to clean the Yeongjung-ro area with water, and after cleaning, a disinfection specialist company carried out disinfection at 26 street vendor locations on Yeongjung-ro, completing the thorough cleaning.

The district office also announced that on the 28th, in preparation for the Chuseok holiday, disinfection activities will be conducted inside Yeongdeungpo Station and its surroundings. To prepare for the expected concentration of returning travelers and citizens, the south plaza of the station will be disinfected, and frequently touched areas such as waiting room chairs will also be sanitized.

Yeongjung-ro, which had long suffered from illegal street vendors and various piled-up objects before 2019, has now transformed into a people-centered pedestrian-friendly street of communication and coexistence, marking its 1st anniversary.

The district office expressed its determination to cultivate an even more pleasant and walkable street in the future by reflecting on its original intention through this meaningful day’s thorough cleaning.

The Yeongjung-ro Pedestrian Environment Improvement Project was also recognized as the most satisfactory policy among the 7th local government’s initiatives, with 71.5% of Yeongdeungpo residents responding positively in a satisfaction survey.

Mayor Chae Hyun-il of Yeongdeungpo-gu said, “On the 1st anniversary of the rebirth of Yeongjung-ro through communication and coexistence, we conducted thorough cleaning and disinfection,” and added, “We will continue to manage Yeongjung-ro so that it can become a symbol of new change and leap forward for Yeongdeungpo.”
