[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Yongsan-gu (Mayor Seong Jang-hyun) is taking a proactive approach to support quarantine measures for college entrance exam candidates in collaboration with Sookmyung Women's University (President Jang Yoon-geum).
On the 23rd at 4 p.m., officials from both organizations gathered at the Sookmyung Women's University Administration Building to sign an "Agreement to Overcome Infectious Disease Disaster Crisis."
This is to ensure the safety of examinees and parents visiting the school ahead of the 2021 academic year college entrance recruitment process and to alleviate concerns about the spread of community infections due to the influx of outsiders.
According to the 2021 academic year Sookmyung Women's University entrance examination schedule, from late October, when interviews and practical exams are planned, until January next year, approximately 13,000 examinees along with numerous parents are expected to visit the university vicinity.
Accordingly, the district has formed a joint response task force (TF) for COVID-19 with Sookmyung Women's University and related local institutions such as the public health center, police station, and fire station to implement real-time quarantine and infectious disease countermeasures.
First, to create a safe exam environment, the district will allocate disaster management funds, increase quarantine personnel linked to the Hope Job Project, and disinfect all lecture rooms used as exam venues within the school.
Additionally, with a budget of 40 million KRW, 20 fever detectors will be installed within Sookmyung Women's University during the exam period, and quarantine supplies (thermometers, masks, hand sanitizers) will be provided.
On exam days, the district will also focus on disinfecting nearby subway stations (Namyeong Station, Sookmyung Women's University Station, etc.) and bus stops. Inspections and quarantine efforts will be strengthened at multi-use facilities such as restaurants and cafes near the university, where examinees and parents are likely to visit.
Furthermore, the district public health center will operate an emergency contact network at all times to actively support rapid transport and follow-up procedures in case of suspected COVID-19 cases.
For the convenience of examinees and parents, the district plans to strengthen crackdowns on illegal parking and coordinate with Yongsan Police Station to control traffic near the university on exam days to prevent congestion.
Since February, the district has been regularly disinfecting dormitories and lecture buildings on campus. It is also promoting personal hygiene by distributing thermometers, masks, and hand sanitizers to dormitory residents.
Seong Jang-hyun, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, stated, "With the start of the 2021 academic year college entrance exams, we have signed a COVID-19 infectious disease response agreement with Sookmyung Women's University, a local university. We will do our best to protect the health and safety of examinees and local residents by establishing thorough preparations and meticulous quarantine systems."
