[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the 25th, the People Power Party stated regarding North Korean State Affairs Commission Chairman Kim Jong-un’s expression of being "deeply sorry" about the shooting incident involving the missing public official from Yeonpyeong Island, "It is a notification in which one cannot feel any true meaning of apology anywhere," adding, "This is not something to be passed over with a meaningless apology."

Yoon Hee-seok, spokesperson for the People Power Party, said in a commentary on the same day, "Rather, they expressed regret by calling our report a one-sided speculation and only emphasized that their actions were justified according to the maritime boundary duty regulations and national emergency quarantine regulations," adding, "Even though our citizen lost their life, they showed an irresponsible attitude by calling it a minor mistake or something that could cause misunderstanding and trying to downplay it."

Spokesperson Yoon emphasized, "This must never end like this," and added, "We must confirm responsible follow-up measures, as well as receive clear answers regarding the punishment of those responsible and measures to prevent recurrence."

Spokesperson Yoon also said, "We need to verify our internal issues as well," and added, "According to North Korea’s notification, there is no evidence anywhere that our public official attempted to defect to the North. A clear explanation from the military on this matter is necessary."
