Operating 'Dodam Dodam Village School' in 25 Districts of Seoul: "The Whole Village is a Learning Space"

Filling Care Gaps for Children: Providing Niche Care and Ensuring Basic Academic Skills

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education and the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 27th that they will operate the 'Dodam Dodam Village School' together with 25 autonomous districts in Seoul to eliminate blind spots in childcare.

Dodam Dodam Village School refers to a village learning center operated by related organizations such as district offices and local residents. It is a place designed to provide gap childcare and basic academic support for children in childcare blind spots who are outside the care of public education institutions centered around schools.

The village school operates around three models: remote learning support type, after-school activity support type, and village teacher mentoring. The remote learning type opens village schools in schools and village spaces around schools that find it difficult to meet the demand for childcare classrooms to support remote learning. The after-school activity support type operates through village workshops, apartment community rooms, and local children's centers. Village teacher mentoring supports students emotionally, psychologically, and academically through friendship building between students and village elders.

It is planned to be continuously operated from next month until COVID-19 is completely eradicated. It will be operated based on school demand surveys, and families who wish to participate can apply according to the school's guidance.
