[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province is implementing a 'Special Traffic and COVID-19 Measures' for the Chuseok holiday.
Jeonnam Province announced on the 25th that it has prepared special traffic measures from the 29th of this month to the 4th of next month to provide COVID-19 prevention and traffic convenience for visitors coming from other regions during the Chuseok holiday period.
First, prior to the special measures period, to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the community, disinfection status inspections will be conducted at terminals, train stations, and other places crowded with visitors and residents on that day.
To block the spread of COVID-19 in the region, the province will focus on promoting mask-wearing by users, social distancing during boarding and alighting, and will closely monitor compliance with quarantine rules.
Since mid-August, when COVID-19 began to resurge, joint inspections with cities and counties have been conducted weekly in the public transportation sector to prevent further spread within the region.
Additionally, for the convenience of visitors, some roads will be temporarily opened, and traffic inconvenience complaints and traffic conditions will be closely shared with related organizations such as police stations and broadcasting companies.
During the holiday period, safety inspections will be conducted at road construction sites, and two routes totaling 6.2 km ? Jangseong Bukha-Dogye (3.5 km) and Haenam Songji-Godam (2.7 km) ? will be opened. The Muan Airport section (1.3 km) and Jangheung Galkwijae section (1.7 km) will be temporarily opened.
Also, the 1.7 km section of National Road Osan in Gokseong and the 5.5 km section of Local Road Ogok, which had been closed due to damage from the heavy rains in August, were temporarily opened on the 18th and 20th, respectively.
The province, 22 cities and counties, Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency, and Jeollanam-do Bus Transport Association will also operate a joint special traffic measures situation room.
The situation room will serve as a control tower to ensure that all residents enjoy a safe and comfortable Chuseok holiday by handling traffic inconvenience reports, guiding vehicle dispersal in congested areas, and responding promptly to traffic accidents.
Park Cheolwon, Director of the Road Traffic Division of Jeonnam Province, said, “We will do our best to prevent accidents by sharing road traffic information for the convenience of visitors and local residents during the Chuseok holiday period,” and added, “To prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the community this Chuseok, please practice mature traffic culture such as terminal disinfection and wearing masks.”
