[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae) is conducting safety inspections on village communal facilities within the greenbelt to provide comfortable and pleasant resting spaces for residents of rural villages living in the development-restricted area.
According to Nam-gu on the 25th, safety inspections of village communal facilities within the development-restricted area have been underway since the 21st in rural areas within the district, including Guso-dong, Deoknam-dong, Dogeum-dong, Seungchon-dong, Sinjang-dong, Wonsan-dong, Wolseong-dong, Imam-dong, Chilseok-dong, and Haengam-dong.
Nam-gu has formed an inspection team consisting of public officials from the responsible department, architects, and experts such as PhDs in architectural engineering, and plans to conduct inspections until the 29th.
The inspection targets are 22 village halls and senior citizen centers frequently visited by the village elders.
It has been found that a significant number of communal facilities in the rural villages within the district are aging buildings. Among the inspection targets, 10 facilities are over 20 years old, and many of the remaining 12 facilities are also approaching 20 years since construction.
While conducting a comprehensive inspection of communal facilities within the villages, Nam-gu is also carefully checking the condition of fences and retaining wall drainage facilities near the village halls and senior centers to prevent safety accidents among the elderly.
Additionally, to ensure efficient management of the village communal facilities, investigations are being conducted regarding the daily number of visitors and actual usage status of these facilities.
A Nam-gu official stated, “After seeking expert advice on the structural safety and the necessity of repairs for buildings over 20 years old, we plan to proceed with repairs and reinforcements by securing budgets such as the special disaster safety grant. We aim to create conditions where elderly residents in rural areas can comfortably rest in communal facilities.”
