IBK Industrial Bank "Beware of Messenger Phishing"...Prevention Email Sent in Advance

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] IBK Industrial Bank announced on the 25th that it sent 'Messenger Phishing Warning' KakaoTalk messages and 'Messenger Phishing Prevention Guide' emails to its transaction customers.

Messenger phishing is a financial scam using messengers like KakaoTalk, where the scammer steals a friend's ID to demand money for urgent transfers, loan repayments, and so on. IBK sent KakaoTalk messages to female customers in their 50s, who are experiencing a high number of messenger phishing incidents, and emails to all customers who agreed to receive emails. The messages contained information about the main methods of messenger phishing and cautions.

An IBK official said, "Recently, unlike the traditional method of demanding money, cases requesting personal information such as ID cards, credit card photos, account passwords, and OTP numbers have surged," adding, "Bank account openings and loan executions are being carried out without the victim realizing it, causing greater damage." The official also added, "If you receive such a message from an acquaintance, you must verify by phone whether the request is genuine."
