[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Disaster relief funds will be provided before Chuseok to 46 households in Ulsan City who suffered housing damage from the recent typhoons ‘Maysak’ and ‘Haishen’ and meet the eligibility criteria for disaster relief payments.
The recipients of this disaster relief fund are households whose damage was confirmed by district and county offices after applications were received at the eup, myeon, and dong offices by September 16. The damages recognized include total destruction, partial destruction, and flooding.
The total amount to be paid is 352 million KRW, with 16 million KRW for total destruction, 8 million KRW for partial destruction, and 2 million KRW for flooding.
The disaster relief funds for typhoon damage are to be funded 50% by the central government and 50% by local governments. However, due to the prolonged rainy season this summer causing concentrated flood damage in the central region and the resulting large scale of damage, the government’s budget for Ulsan’s typhoon disaster relief funds is insufficient and the central government subsidy for Ulsan is expected to be granted after Chuseok.
Accordingly, Ulsan City plans to use contingency funds from the city and district/county offices to provide disaster relief funds in advance before Chuseok to residents affected by the typhoon damage, in addition to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, to comfort and support them during the holiday.
Due to the impact of two consecutive typhoons, Ulsan suffered a total of 1.448 billion KRW in damage to private facilities. For residents who suffered damage to other private facilities such as vinyl greenhouses, farmland, livestock farms, vessels, and fisheries aquaculture farms, payments are planned for the end of October when the central government subsidy is expected to be granted.
