Guro-gu Provides Emergency Temporary Housing Support for Households Facing COVID-19 Housing Crisis

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) is launching an emergency temporary housing support project for households facing housing crises due to COVID-19.

Guro-gu stated on the 25th, "Housing problems such as rent arrears and an increase in homeless people are occurring due to the economic crisis caused by COVID-19," and added, "We aim to establish a detailed housing safety net by providing emergency temporary housing to households in housing crisis."

To this end, Guro-gu will select five households at risk of losing their homes and provide rental housing such as multi-family houses and one-room units. Customized information and services tailored to the welfare needs of each recipient will also be provided to help them move to stable housing.

Eligibility for residency is limited to Guro-gu residents with a monthly average income of 120% or less of the urban worker household income, with priority given to households with children. The basic residency period is six months, with one extension allowed, making a total possible stay of up to 12 months.

On the 24th, to promote the project, Guro-gu signed a business agreement for the operation of emergency temporary housing at the district office auditorium with Seoul Housing & Communities Corporation (SH) (President Kim Seyong), Home&Shopping (CEO Kim Okchan), and Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation (Chairman Lee Jehun).

According to the agreement, Guro-gu will support rent, information, and services for households in housing crisis; Seoul Housing & Communities Corporation (SH) will provide purchased rental housing to Guro-gu for a fee; Home&Shopping will provide sponsorship funds; and Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation will manage the execution of sponsorship funds and household goods within the emergency temporary housing.

A Guro-gu official stated, "We will continue to expand support so that households in housing crisis can secure stable housing and become self-reliant."
