[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] The Korea International Trade Association held the '2020 Meeting between Shippers and Shipowners' on the 24th at the Trade Tower in Samseong-dong.
The meeting was attended by shipper companies, the Shipowners' Association, and shipping companies including HMM, SM Line, Maersk, and MSC to discuss recent maritime transport trends and explore mutual cooperation measures.
Shipper companies requested that shipping companies expand the allocation of shipping space departing from Korea for export companies, and the shipping companies expressed sympathy for the difficulties faced by these export companies and stated their intention to work towards expanding shipping space.
Hanjin-hyun, Vice Chairman of KITA, urged, "Although shippers and shipowners, who play a pivotal role in exports and imports, have somewhat different interests depending on market conditions, given the difficult export environment due to the COVID-19 situation, shippers and shipowners should strive for mutual cooperation."
