China bans entry of 2 Australian scholars... Cancels visas of 2 Chinese scholars in retaliation

Global Times Accuses Individuals of Fabricating Anti-China Issues and Publishing Anti-China Books

[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Jo Young-shin] China has banned the entry of two Australian scholars.

China's state-run Global Times reported on the 24th that the Exit and Entry Administration has banned Clive Hamilton, an anti-China Australian scholar, and Alexander Joske, a researcher at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, from entering China.

This entry ban is a retaliatory measure following the Australian government's cancellation of visas for two Chinese scholars. Earlier this month, the Australian government canceled the visas of two Chinese scholars on espionage charges.

Hamilton is known as an anti-China scholar who published a book claiming that China is expanding its infiltration and influence in Western countries through hacking and information theft.

Joske, a researcher at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, is notorious for inciting anti-China propaganda and fabricating anti-China issues, according to the Global Times.

Along with the United States, China has imposed tariffs on Australian agricultural and livestock products such as beef and is conducting anti-dumping investigations as retaliation after Australia raised the issue of responsibility for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
