[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] The Seoul Metropolitan Council (Chairman Kim In-ho) has formed the 'Budget Policy Research Committee' to strengthen the council's budget policy functions and appointed the members of the 2nd Budget Policy Research Committee on the 23rd.
The Budget Policy Research Committee was established to conduct legislative activities related to the Seoul Metropolitan Council's budget, settlement of accounts, and local finance, as well as budget policy research activities for the development of city administration.
The 2nd Budget Policy Research Committee, which will operate until June 30 next year, is composed of 15 city council members and 10 budget and finance experts.
Kim Ki-duk, Vice Chairman of the Seoul Metropolitan Council (Mapo 4, Democratic Party), presented appointment letters to the committee members, saying, "I hope the Budget Policy Research Committee will proactively suggest the direction and role that the council should take, and I ask you to devote all your efforts so that citizens' taxes are used properly where needed through active research activities."
Following the appointment ceremony, the committee held a plenary meeting of the 2nd Budget Policy Research Committee, elected the chairman and vice chairmen, and discussed future operational plans.
Kim Kyung, a city council member (Proportional Representation, Democratic Party), was elected chairman by the committee members' vote, and Song Myung-hwa (Gangdong 3, Democratic Party) and Honorary Professor Yoon Young-jin (Keimyung University) were appointed as vice chairmen with the consent of the members and nomination by the chairman.
Additionally, to ensure efficient research activities, three subcommittees were formed and operated, with Kwon Young-hee (Proportional Representation, Democratic Party), Kim Kyung-woo (Dongjak 2, Democratic Party), and Oh Joong-seok (Dongdaemun 2, Democratic Party) appointed as subcommittee chairpersons.
Kim Kyung, elected as chairman of the 2nd Budget Policy Research Committee, expressed his thoughts, saying, "In the severe situation of COVID-19, I will do my best with the appointed committee members today to ensure that the Seoul Metropolitan Council protects the safety and lives of Seoul citizens."
The 2nd Budget Policy Research Committee (Chairman Kim Kyung) announced plans to strengthen budget and financial capabilities and play a leading role in local fiscal decentralization through ▲ analysis and research of the city and city education office's budget and settlement of accounts and major policy projects ▲ research on expanding local finance, fiscal decentralization, and improvement of laws and systems related to local finance ▲ hosting presentations to discuss research results related to budget policy.
