County Governor Oh Gyuseok Urges Resolution of 22 Issues Including Early Construction of Urban Railway
Holds Solo Protest in Front of Busan City Hall on the 24th Noon

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] On the 24th, Oh Gyu-seok, the mayor of Busan’s Gijang County, held a solo protest in front of the Citizen Plaza at Busan City Hall at noon.

The mayor staged the protest to urge the early construction of the Urban Railway Jeonggwan Line and Gijang Line, among other pressing issues in Gijang.

The issues he demands from Busan City and related agencies include the early commencement of the Jeonggwan and Gijang Lines, the construction of a bypass road in Ilgwang New Town, creation of a detention basin park, establishment of a new sewage treatment plant within the Osiria Tourist Complex, and extension of the planned Sasang~Haeundae urban expressway (deep tunnel) to the Osiria Tourist Complex, along with the preparation of traffic measures and active, prompt support.

The targets of his protest are Busan City and Busan Urban Corporation, which hold the key to resolving these issues.

Earlier, on the 18th, Mayor Oh met with Park Seong-hoon, the Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs of Busan City. He requested the early construction of the urban railway as a means of rapid evacuation in case of a nuclear emergency, along with the resolution and support of a total of 22 pending projects in Gijang County.

The 22 projects requested for support from Busan City include: ▲ prioritizing the preliminary feasibility study for the early construction of the Urban Railway Jeonggwan Line and Gijang Line, ▲ prompt disbursement of infrastructure burden charges for the successful establishment of the Southeast Radiation Medical and Science Industrial Complex, ▲ overlapping urban planning facility decisions for the creation of a detention basin park in Ilgwang New Town, ▲ creation of Jeonggwan Edu Park, ▲ road construction between Daebyeon and Jukseong intersections, ▲ road expansion around Wolnae Bridge, ▲ expansion of the connecting road between Jeonggwan General Industrial Complex (Yerim Intersection~Agricultural Industrial Complex), ▲ creation of Gijang Ceramic Tourism Healing Village, ▲ maintenance of Gijang Eupseong Fortress, ▲ creation of Chilam Port Five Senses Experience Fishing Village, ▲ installation of a tidal weir at Idong Port, ▲ expansion of the storage yard at Sinam Port, ▲ reinforcement of the breakwater at Jungdong Port, ▲ installation of the Dongbaek East Breakwater, ▲ construction of a seafood direct sales center at Idong, ▲ creation of Gilcheon Neighborhood Park, ▲ maintenance of safety facilities at Gutgeori Park, ▲ creation (expansion) of Yongso Well-being Park, ▲ construction of Ilgwang Library, ▲ construction of a public parking lot at Ilgwang Beach, ▲ support for operating expenses of emergency medical institutions in vulnerable areas, and ▲ green remodeling projects for public buildings.

Additionally, on the 22nd, Mayor Oh visited Busan Urban Corporation and demanded prompt resolution of major proposals such as traffic measures for Ilgwang New Town and Osiria Tourist Complex, where residents suffer from severe traffic congestion, and the creation of a detention basin park within Ilgwang New Town.

The Gijang County issues urged to Busan Urban Corporation include: ▲ construction of a bypass road in Ilgwang New Town, ▲ installation of a noise-blocking tunnel (soundproof wall) at the Samsung Underpass in Ilgwang New Town, ▲ construction of a bypass road and improvement of the traffic system at the Gyori Samgeori Intersection in Ilgwang District, ▲ expansion of Bansong-ro (from Gyori Samgeori to the intersection in front of Dongyang Garden) to six lanes, ▲ extension of the planned Sasang~Haeundae urban expressway (deep tunnel) to Osiria Tourist Complex, ▲ creation of a public parking lot (parking tower) on the site in front of Osiria Station on the Donghae Line, ▲ traffic volume dispersion plan for Osiria Tourist Complex and establishment of traffic flow measures on surrounding arterial roads, ▲ creation of two detention basins as neighborhood parks within Ilgwang New Town, ▲ installation of a connecting passage at Samsung Forest Park (section from Hanshin Apartment to Ilgwang 2nd Elementary School), ▲ removal of broomcorn shrubs and planting of trees on park site slopes, ▲ additional planting of large evergreen trees on top of the park’s ecological tunnel, ▲ additional installation of restrooms, bus stops, shade shelters, and CCTV, ▲ establishment of a new sewage treatment plant within Osiria Tourist Complex, and ▲ early payment of 16.9 billion KRW in development charges for the Ilgwang District urban development project.

Mayor Oh said, “On behalf of the 172,000 residents of Gijang County, I will persistently raise these issues with Busan City and Busan Urban Corporation until they are resolved.”
