[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the 24th, the People’s Party stated regarding the shooting incident involving the missing public official from Yeonpyeong Island by North Korea, “The act of shooting our citizens and even setting fire to the deceased’s body to desecrate it is a barbaric and violent behavior beyond the common sense of civilized nations,” adding, “This is an extremely serious incident no different from aiming a gun at the entire Republic of Korea.”

Hong Kyung-hee, the senior deputy spokesperson of the People’s Party, said in a commentary on the same day, “Since the 2008 shooting incident at Mount Kumgang, another heinous incident has occurred where a South Korean citizen was shot and killed by North Korean soldiers.”

Senior Deputy Spokesperson Hong stated, “We clearly declare that all causes of this incident lie with North Korea and strongly condemn it,” and added, “North Korea has admitted itself to be an irrational state that cannot be a member of the international community with universal common sense.”
