[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Joo-hee] Former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon criticized the government's prosecution reform on the 24th, calling it "prosecution reform as a VIP's long-cherished project" and saying, "The prosecution reform agreed upon by civil society disappeared long ago."
On the same day, Jin shared a column titled "Let's Properly Implement Prosecution Reform" written by former Democratic Party lawmaker Geum Tae-seop in a media outlet on his Facebook, expressing these views.
Jin pointed out, "In fact, there are two types of prosecution reform. One is the prosecution reform agreed upon by civil society, which I also supported. That disappeared long ago."
He continued, "The other is prosecution reform as a VIP's long-cherished project. That is why even the Minister of National Defense grovels before Chu Mi-ae, who is not even a pro-Moon insider," and criticized, "This version of prosecution reform has degenerated into a meme (a parody replicated in various forms) of ridicule."
He said, "They won't let anyone touch power, and they say they will mobilize the special investigation unit for reheated, third-time cases targeting the (prosecutor) general," adding, "Prosecution reform has resulted in a deterioration worse than doing nothing, but politically, there will still be a need for an appearance of institutional completion. That is why they are making such a fuss to launch the Corruption Investigation Office by any means necessary."
Jin further recommended, "Former lawmaker Geum Tae-seop's article thoroughly points out the illusions of the so-called 'prosecution reform' carried out by the regime. You should definitely read it."
In the column, former lawmaker Geum criticized, "(The government) responds to any attack, regardless of context, by saying, 'Prosecution reform is urgent now, so why are you doing this?'" and stated, "The term 'prosecution reform' should not become an excuse or pretext to avoid criticism of the government or difficult situations."
