Mayor Lee Yong-seop Urges "Abolishing Wrong Practices to Establish a Trusted Institution"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the morning of the 24th that it held a meeting of heads of 25 public institutions at the city hall's medium conference room to review the progress of each institution's 2020 performance achievement plans.
At the meeting, despite the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, public institutions shared their efforts and achievements to meet the performance goals set at the beginning of the year in various fields such as exhibitions and performances, marketing and consulting, and attracting national projects through swift transitions like building untact platforms in preparation for the post-COVID era.
Regarding the achievements by each public institution, Gwangju Urban Corporation announced ▲completion of the release of GB for the development project of the Advanced 3 District in the Research and Development Special Zone (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport) and approval of the development plan (Ministry of Science and ICT). Gwangju Urban Railway Corporation reported ▲zero safety concerns in the railway sector ▲two domestic and international railway project orders (technical service for mid-term maintenance of Cairo electric trains in Egypt, operation and maintenance project of the Sinlim Line light rail transit).
Kim Dae-jung Convention Center announced ▲completion of the application for the construction of the 2nd exhibition hall (Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy), expecting new business development and increased sales through the establishment of a smart exhibition hall and untact studio in a non-face-to-face environment. Gwangju Environment Corporation explained ▲achieving 97.4% of the target processing rate for public facilities operating without food waste disposal crises and providing operation guidance for all environmental basic facilities during the Chuseok holiday period.
Technopark shared major achievements including ▲attracting seven national projects such as hydrogen fuel cell business, hydrogen production base business, and senior cosmedicare business.
After receiving the 2020 public institution performance achievement plan report, Mayor Lee Yong-seop said, “Despite the challenging circumstances due to unexpected variables such as COVID-19, each institution demonstrated challenging and innovative leadership and achieved many results in various fields.”
He then urged active participation in blocking the spread of COVID-19 infection and stabilizing people's livelihoods during the Chuseok holiday through the ‘Chuseok holiday stay-at-home citizen movement,’ ‘good rent campaign for public institution-owned facilities,’ and ‘traditional market shopping and sharing warmth at welfare facilities for Chuseok.’
Regarding the recently emerging topic of Gwangju-Jeonnam integration discussions, he said, “Since Gwangju and Jeonnam represent the spirit of the times, I hope you will contribute wisdom and strength to the administrative integration discussions,” and added, “Let us work together to form public consensus and promote public discussion.”
Finally, the mayor said, “I hope public institutions will fundamentally reform unfairness and wrong practices to enhance innovation, fairness, and transparency in institution management, thereby contributing to regional development and becoming trusted public institutions by citizens.”
