GS Caltex-Hyundai Motor Group Sign Data-Driven Service Development Agreement

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Soyeon] GS Caltex and Hyundai Motor Group have established a data alliance to proactively respond to the future mobility era and are promoting collaboration through mutual data sharing.

On the 24th, GS Caltex and Hyundai Motor Group signed a "Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Data-Based Service Development" at the GS Tower in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. The signing ceremony was attended by industry officials including Kim Jeong-su, Executive Director of GS Caltex Strategic Planning Office, and Yoon Kyung-rim, Vice President of Hyundai Motor Group's Open Innovation Strategy Division.

Following the enforcement of the Data 3 Act in August, which has activated the use of pseudonymized data, both companies agreed to open their data to each other and cooperate in developing data-based services.

Through this MOU, GS Caltex and Hyundai Motor Group will first establish an exchange system that can securely share each company's data generated in closely related Car-Life fields such as refueling and charging (LPG, electric, hydrogen), driving, and car wash and maintenance, and develop areas where the data can be effectively utilized.

Additionally, they will improve drivers' data service experiences by providing information on vehicle parts replacement status, fuel replacement cycles, and safe driving habits, and jointly promote customer service development projects linked with various heterogeneous business sectors.

Kim Jeong-su, Executive Director of GS Caltex Strategic Planning Office, said, "We warmly welcome the creation of a new ecosystem where companies can collaborate based on data," adding, "Through this strategic partnership, we hope to discover innovative future service areas that value customers and the environment and continuously expand the scope of collaboration."

Yoon Kyung-rim, Vice President of Hyundai Motor Group's Open Innovation Strategy Division, stated, "We expect that data-based service development across the entire Car-Life spectrum will accelerate through this mutual data opening agreement," and added, "By cooperating with competitive partners and expanding smart functions and services, we will continuously strive to provide customers with differentiated experiences compared to other brands."

Meanwhile, GS Caltex signed a "Business Agreement for Charging Environment Improvement and New Business Opportunity Discovery" with LG Chem last July and has been developing electric vehicle battery specialized services using big data. Going forward, GS Caltex plans to continuously develop new customer services based on data by expanding strategic alliances with partners in mobility-related industries.
