Samsung Securities Strengthens Non-Face-to-Face Overseas Stock Services During Chuseok Holiday

Overseas Stock Analysts' 'Untact Conference' Held on the 26th Just Before Chuseok
Operating 'Overseas Stock Desk' During the Holiday to Support Real-Time Overseas Stock Trading Customers

Samsung Securities Strengthens Non-Face-to-Face Overseas Stock Services During Chuseok Holiday Samsung Securities' overseas stock desk will operate both day and night during the Chuseok holiday (September 30 to October 2), just like on weekdays, actively supporting customers' real-time trading.

[Asia Economy Reporter Song Hwajeong] Samsung Securities is launching a large-scale non-face-to-face (untact) overseas stock service during the Chuseok holiday period to help investors conveniently invest overseas.

Samsung Securities expects that due to the difficulty of regional movement caused by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) this Chuseok, investors will spend more time at home, leading to greater interest in overseas stock markets than during any previous holiday period. Therefore, it has significantly strengthened overseas stock-related information services during the holiday period.

First, starting from 2 p.m. on the 26th, just before the holiday, a "Overseas Stock Untact Conference" summarizing the outlook of stock markets in various countries, key sectors, and promising investment items will be held live on the YouTube channel throughout the holiday period.

This conference features lectures and real-time Q&A sessions with instructors including Jang Hyoseon, Head of the Global Stock Team at the Research Center; analyst Lim Eunyeong, in charge of Electric Vehicles (EV) and Mobility; analyst Lee Jongwook, responsible for Electronics and IT Components; analyst Kim Junghan, in charge of Global Platforms; and analyst Seo Geunhee, responsible for Healthcare.

Pre-registration is required to watch the Overseas Stock Untact Conference live, and applications can be made on the Samsung Securities website.

The content of the live conference will be divided by topic and uploaded on the YouTube channel during the Chuseok holiday period.

In particular, all customers who pre-register for this untact conference will receive the benefit of free access to real-time U.S. stock quotes for three months from October 1, the Chuseok period, until the end of the year.

Additionally, among the pre-registered customers, those who record overseas stock trading amounts of 1 million KRW or more in October will be entered into a draw to receive Galaxy Buds Live as a gift for 100 winners.

Support is also provided for customers trading overseas stocks during the Chuseok holiday period. To enable overseas stock investors to conveniently trade overseas stocks even during the holiday period (September 30 to the morning of October 3), the "Overseas Stock Desk" will operate day and night, just like on weekdays.

Through the Overseas Stock Desk during the holiday period, not only individual customers but also institutional investors such as pension funds can trade overseas stocks in real time.

Furthermore, Samsung Securities is running an overseas stock commission event until the end of the year for new customers who open accounts non-face-to-face for the first time, lowering online overseas stock commissions to the industry's lowest level of 0.09% (based on U.S. purchases), and commissions for overseas listed ETFs and ETNs to 0.045%. (A separate U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission fee of 0.00221% is charged upon sale.)

Sa Jaehoon, Head of Retail Division at Samsung Securities, said, "Unlike domestic stocks, it is true that information on overseas stocks is relatively insufficient, and especially during long holiday periods like Chuseok, this demand inevitably becomes more urgent. This Chuseok, we have prepared various services by mobilizing all available methods such as overseas stock conferences, YouTube investment information, and the overseas stock desk, and we sincerely hope investors achieve abundant investment results befitting the holiday."

Detailed information about overseas stock content and events conducted online can be found on the Samsung Securities website and the overseas stock event page.

Meanwhile, an analysis of overseas stock investor behavior by Samsung Securities this year confirmed that the untact trend in trading channels is rapidly progressing in overseas stock investment as well.

As of the end of August 2020, the number of customers trading overseas stocks at Samsung Securities exceeded 100,000, with over 65% of them trading overseas stocks non-face-to-face, more than doubling the proportion at the end of the previous year (32%).

A notable feature of overseas stock customers' trading patterns is that for U.S. stock trading customers, 60.3% of orders, which is more than half, are concentrated between 10 p.m. and midnight, including the pre-market that opens before the regular market starts at 10:30 p.m.

Samsung Securities plans to introduce a service in October to move the pre-market trading start time forward by two hours from the current 10 p.m. to 8 p.m., in line with investors' trading patterns.
