Donates Entire 5 Million KRW from Online Leadership Course to UNIST
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] “I earned money from my alma mater, so I spent it for my alma mater.”
Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST, President Lee Yong-hoon) received a development fund donation of 5 million KRW from the student startup company ‘Class101 (CEO Ko Ji-yeon)’.
Class101 is a venture company founded by graduates including Ko Ji-yeon, an alumnus of this university.
The donated funds this time are the entire proceeds from the online leadership program that UNIST conducted with Class101 in the first semester of the 2020 academic year.
The UNIST leadership program is a non-curricular course conducted to nurture creative talents.
This course, composed of volunteering, experience, rowing, mental health, and local exploration, must be completed for graduation, but most of it is conducted offline.
UNIST collaborated with Class101, a startup company operating an online class platform, to run part of the leadership program as an online course last semester.
Class101 provided a total of four courses: ▲The earlier you study real estate, the better ▲Instagram personal branding ▲Dance class ▲Oil pastel drawing, and about 200 UNIST students took these “fresh” courses.
Class101 donated the proceeds from these classes back to UNIST, hoping they will be used for quality online education.
Ko Ji-yeon, CEO of Class101, said, “I am pleased that Class101 supported UNIST’s online lectures and donated all the proceeds. We will continue to find ways for juniors to listen to quality lectures and grow through various collaborations with our alma mater.”
Lee Myung-in, Director of External Cooperation at UNIST, said, “We deeply appreciate that the collaboration with Class101 has led to donations for school development. It seems to show that creative and excellent startups and universities can join forces to bring about positive change.”
Class101, founded mainly by UNIST students, operates an online class platform based on the vision of ‘so that everyone can live doing what they love.’
It offers distinctive online lectures in various fields, from ‘Creative’ courses specialized in hobby development, ‘Money’ sharing side jobs and financial knowledge, ‘Career’ for job training, to ‘Libre’ covering arts, humanities, and philosophy.
