[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Bong-ju] Goyang City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 23rd that 10 additional confirmed cases of COVID-19 were detected among residents (Goyang City numbers 373 to 382) at the psychiatric care facility Bakaewon in Ilsandong-gu. As a result, the total number of confirmed cases related to Bakaewon has increased to 38.
Among the 38 confirmed cases, 35 are residents, 2 are staff members, and 1 is a social service agent.
The 10 newly confirmed cases on this day were all residents on the 3rd floor, where a total of 34 residents have tested positive.
Before the first confirmed case on the 15th, there were 56 residents on the 3rd floor. Over the past 9 days, 34 residents, or 60%, have been confirmed positive.
Earlier, on the 18th, Goyang City had dispersed the 3rd-floor residents who were under cohort isolation using the gymnasium on the 3rd floor of the building.
Partitions were installed in the gymnasium to create 10 separate individual spaces, each equipped with two beds.
However, additional confirmed cases have been emerging almost daily on the 3rd floor.
Before the first COVID-19 case occurred, Bakaewon housed 229 residents, 44 staff members, and 10 social service agents.
