[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Tae-in] Jeonbuk Province, the Jeonbuk branch of the Korean Red Cross, and the Community Chest of Korea held a relief fund and goods support ceremony on the 23rd at the Jeonbuk Provincial Office to assist flood victims.
At the support ceremony held that day, it was decided to provide relief funds and goods worth a total of 600 million KRW to 1,180 flood-affected households (964 households with housing damage, 212 households with livelihood damage, and 4 deaths) before Chuseok.
The relief supplies were purchased with donations contributed to the Community Chest by various sectors to support flood victims and low-income groups, as well as donations given to the Korean Red Cross.
The support items include ▲1,180 electric thermal rice cookers, ▲1,180 Chuseok relief sets (8 items including masks, hand sanitizers, Spam, canned tuna, etc.), ▲2.89 billion KRW in Onnuri gift certificates (964 households, 300,000 KRW each), and ▲12 million KRW in condolence money for the deceased (4 people, 3 million KRW each).
Furthermore, this support is meaningful as it is provided before Chuseok, the great national holiday, through cooperation between the province and private organizations such as the Korean Red Cross and the Community Chest to help flood victims regain stability as soon as possible.
Song Ha-jin, Governor of Jeollabuk-do, said, “I am grateful that the Community Chest and the Red Cross, the representative social welfare support organizations, have cooperated to support the flood victims who are suffering from the double hardship of COVID-19 and heavy rain, and Jeollabuk-do will do its best to help the victims return to a stable daily life as soon as possible.”
