Selected for 6 Consecutive Years as Munhwajae Night Tour, Continuing the Legacy of a Cultural Heritage Enjoyment City
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City (Mayor Heo Seok) has been selected for six projects in five categories in next year's Cultural Heritage Administration regional cultural heritage utilization contest.
The selected projects are ▲Cultural Heritage Night Tour, ▲World Heritage Utilization, ▲Traditional Mountain Temple Cultural Heritage Utilization, ▲Vivid Cultural Heritage, and ▲Hyanggyo·Seowon Cultural Heritage Utilization, securing 488 million KRW in national funds and 687 million KRW in local funds, totaling 1.175 billion KRW to promote various cultural heritage utilization projects.
The Cultural Heritage Night Tour is a program to enjoy cultural heritage at night, and Suncheon has been selected for six consecutive years since 2016. The Cultural Heritage Night Tour themed "Revival of Suncheonbu Eupseong" secured the largest budget among Jeonnam cities and counties with a total project cost of 800 million KRW.
The World Heritage Utilization program, centered on Seonamsa Temple, registered as "Sansa, Korean Mountain Monastic Sites," will hold a 3rd anniversary event of the registration and operate world heritage education programs, with cultural heritage-centered programs unfolding throughout the year.
In the Traditional Mountain Temple Cultural Heritage Utilization project, "Opening the Millennium Gate of Jogyesan" was selected. This project is conducted at Songgwangsa Temple and links the Cultural Heritage Night Tour night exploration with a cultural heritage stamp tour.
The Hyanggyo·Seowon Utilization project centers on Suncheon Hyanggyo and aims to promote exchange between traditional and modern culture. It is conducted through experiences such as humanities lectures, old map drawing, and the Jinsa examination.
Additionally, two projects including "A Modern Cultural Heritage Outing with Missionaries" were selected as Vivid Cultural Heritage Utilization projects.
A Suncheon city official said, "By securing national and local funds, we expect to minimize financial expenditures of local governments while expanding opportunities for citizens to enjoy diverse regional cultures and develop programs for socially vulnerable groups who are culturally disadvantaged."
