Priority Investment in Stabilizing Livelihoods through Expenditure Budget Reduction and Hidden Tax Source Discovery
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City (Mayor Heo Seok) is holding a contest to gather ideas for discovering hidden revenue sources to recover the local economy, which has been stagnant due to COVID-19, and to establish measures for stabilizing people's livelihoods.
This contest was prepared for citizens and public officials to find hidden revenue sources and reduce inefficiently operated budgets, as next year's revenue is expected to decrease significantly due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
The contest covers revenue areas such as collection of delinquent taxes, income from public facility usage fees and admission fees, rental income from public property, and discovery of profit-making projects in the public sector. In terms of expenditure reduction, it includes festival consolidation or abolition, reduction of public facility management and operation costs, efficient operation of subsidy projects, and discovery of sunset projects.
The contest will run until the 15th of next month. Those who wish to participate can download the application form from the ‘Notices/Announcements’ section on the Suncheon City Hall website and submit it to the Suncheon City Planning and Budget Office via email, mail, fax, or in person.
The city will select eight outstanding ideas from citizens (1 gold prize, 2 silver prizes, 5 bronze prizes) and award Suncheon Love Gift Certificates worth 1,000,000 KRW, 500,000 KRW, and 200,000 KRW respectively. Public officials will receive personnel benefits and additional points.
A Suncheon City official stated, “Thanks to the sacrifice and cooperation of citizens, we have prevented the spread of COVID-19. The hidden revenue sources discovered through this idea contest will be prioritized for investment in projects aimed at local economic recovery, job creation, and stabilization of people's livelihoods.”
For any inquiries regarding the idea contest, please contact the Suncheon City Planning and Budget Office.
