On the 23rd, Guo Ping, Huawei's rotating chairman, said in his keynote speech at the annual global ICT conference 'Huawei Connect 2020' held in Shanghai, "Huawei is facing tremendous difficulties," adding, "Survival has become our main goal."
He said, "Due to continuous suppression, Huawei is enduring significant operational pressure," without specifically mentioning the U.S. government, but emphasized that it would not yield to sanctions and would continue to seek opportunities for development. Guo expressed that while overall operations remain stable, "U.S. sanctions have certainly caused great difficulties in our production and overall management."
At the press conference, Guo also expressed willingness to purchase American semiconductors. He said, "We hope the U.S. government will reconsider its policies," and "If the U.S. government permits, we want to buy products from American companies."
When asked if Huawei intends to install semiconductor parts supplied by Qualcomm in its flagship smartphones, he said, "We are paying attention to Qualcomm's application for export licenses to the U.S. government," adding, "We have purchased Qualcomm chips for over 10 years in the past, and if transactions are possible, we will gladly produce smartphones with Qualcomm chips in the future."
The U.S. government announced additional sanctions from the 15th, prohibiting Huawei from purchasing semiconductor parts without government approval. Huawei is facing difficulties procuring parts needed for computers, smartphones, and communication equipment, and must rely on large stockpiles of inventory to endure.
